In my personal opinion I believe that in the beginning man has created himself a god, some kind of superhero so they can excuse everything they dont know on it existence. So I dont think that there is a god because if there is one he must be some kind of freak to create so much evil in one world and it must understand that people are not toys. Even if the Jews of Europe have sin this punishment teaches a lot more then we can learn or understand. This is no punishment, but confronting the devil him self in his kingdom, hell. I dont believe in god and horrors show like the holocaust only emphasis this statement. In my opinion there is evil in some of us and maybe in hard times it cams out and its easier to be evil then be different, it easier when some one ells think instead of you and you dont have to think or feel anything. Maybe the passions for emptiness like that cause this kind of evilness. And maybe it doesnt, maybe there is no explanation at all
I been half a year ago in Poland, trying to understand what happened 60 years ago, trying to understand how can be so cruel people in the world.
So many jews had been killed during 5-6 years, why God, our God, didn't do something, why he let children to die without their perants, WHY?!
When I walked in the way that jews walked in their way to died, I think about only one think - how I can prevent this from happening again?!
Many years had pass since then, the last survivers are old now, Auswitz, Treblinka, Maidank are green mountains with green, yellow and red trees now. And this places are so peace and quiet now, where dissapeared everything?!
As much as I will try to find answers i'll just understand less.
The hulocust had't explaination-
Maybe there is no God, Maybe people are cruel, Maybe...
Now, 60 years later, we should remember what happened to our grandfathers and grandmothers.
We should teach the Holucost, talk about it, and not only one day in the year but during all the year. We should remember that no-one can promise that this sad thing won't happen again.
Always remember this!!!
I don't think that there is a 100% answer to the question how to prevent another hallocoust happening. it's a fact, it have already happened in the balkans, maibe it wasn't as major as it was in the ww2, but it happened and many months passed until someone noticed.
the best way to minimize the chance to another genocide to hapeen is building democratic regims in all over the world and fighting undemocratic leaders.
i think that if there is a god, he surely hates us all, otherwise he wouldn't create us with tendencies to murder people. i do not belive in god, it's nonsence that there is a "santa clous" who cares about us and punishes us.
Hey Max! How's it going?
Personally, I think that the best way to prevent another event like the Holocaust is to promote equality and the understanding and acceptance of differences throughout the world. Yeah, it's a sentimental and idealistic solution, but I think that it really is the root of many - if not all - problems. It was Hitler who blamed the Jews for the countries problems and wanted to create the "perfect" race where anyone without blue eyes and blonde hair were considered inadequate. And it was the Europeans that designated that the Africans were inferior because of the color of their skin and were only good for human labor. Even today, if Saddam hadn't oppressed his people and taken away their rights, we wouldn't be in this war. Human beings wouldn't be dying and families wouldn't be torn apart. If people could only value the diversity of this world and not believe that their way is the only way, then maybe there wouldn't be so much hostility and hatred. Maybe then we'd have peace.
Whew. I think that's enough from me right now. lol. I hope I can get another response from you to this topic. Talk to you soon.
I hope you and Max don't mind me putting in my pennysworth here.
I just wanted to say how much I admire your interaction in this project, and Nina the tolerant tone and content of your letter here - is perhaps the best answer to all the questions being asked in this project.
Take care and I hope that you and Max will continue your communication long after the project ends.

i still think that problems have to be soved by aggresion, only decades of re-education will teach people about democracy, you have to change people's culture from the root and not just telling them that democracy is good, until then - half military rigim(half means like in israel - israel is seem to be independed, but if it does something that americans don't like, the country will crush if not by america's military forces, it will be by our "peace-loving" neighbours). i think that you have to be more realistic and less idialistic.
remember how democracy came to france, only by force....
but maibe i wrong and the world is better than i see it in my bubble...
I do think we can prevent from this kind of thing from happening again by remembering and never forget to take this memory for all your life.
Besides that i think that in our time this thing wont happen cause in those times hitler was able to get into the goverment by democracy means meaning he used the democracy to change the democracy which nowdays is impossible cause most of the countries in europe changed the law this way that anti democracy groups wont be able to get to the goverment.
I also think the world has learnt his lesson and wont make the same mistake again.
Nowdays we have the UN to prevent such things (although its has proven itself as unefficient).
We all know that in all of us there is a little evil in some there is a big evil but but everyone can control this evil and the world of today need to confront with those evils.
REMEMBER AND NEVER FORGET!
there is no way to explane how such a horiballe thing could have happend.
personoly we belive that in each persons heart there is evil and he choses if he wants to relise his iner evil.
we belive as well that there is no god (he died on the seventh day of creating the world) so we can ditermen that god did not punish them , but we belive that if there where a god he wouldnt have permited the killing of small children that had done nothing to no one.
we think that in order for this not to hapen again its importent that we dont forget what happend and that we should pas it on to our children.
The way to prevent this from happening is to respect the belief that everyone is equal. No matter your skin color, religion, or beliefs we have to support every persons individual rights as a human being ,and learn to love and forgive.
This time of unforunate tradegy I don't believe was an act of God. It is just an example of an society that was unbelievably cruel and they targeted innocent people as their prey. Hitler was a very barbarous and deranged human being.
I question why God didn't do anything as Elie did. I don't know why he let over 6 million innocent people die such a horrible death. Does that mean he doesn't exist? I don't know. All I can do is believe that there was nothing he could do and that all the people who died in those atrocious camps went to a better place and didn't have to suffer any longer.
i think this horrible war wont happend again because the situation is diffrent in this days: the jews has there own country: israel, today many organization was established to privent this kind of war (Unaited nations, the organization for human right and many more).
in spite of there are many organizations that acting to start this war again, and destroy jews. the antisimitism in europe today is getting worse every day. but it wont brake the limits and take control again.
in fact the fact that irael is endependent country with a great army will prevent this war and this hollocost in the future.
as i said in Dilema 3 maybe god wanted to test the jews for there loyalty, to make sure that there religion and belive is strong enough to belive in god after this horrible hollocost.
but he took it to far!!!
there is a million of explanations to this. but i cant right about all of them.
my personally opinion is that god not exist, and the belive in god was the only hope for jews and maybe this hope saved there lives. maybe there is nothing to belive in, but the jews belived, and that's what saved our raise.
Again, I agree. Well spoken. I wish I would have read your 4th dilema before I posted 3. Like I said before, I dont have a lot of time, so I dont even read other classmate's postings, let alone ahead. I would like to hear more about your personal views on religion, because that is one of my favorite discussion topics. We should probably talk about that in GETTING TO KNOW YOU or through e-mail. Do you have an address??? Let me know. Write back soon. Hopefully I'll be able to write while at work more often like I am rigt now.
I don`t believe that the holocoust
is a sign from god.I think it is from a wickedness of the huminity.
They(the huminity) exploit the state of the jews in which they hadn`t a country/land,they hadn`t enough power and support,
encourgement and protection.
Therefore, they always assimilated
into other contries. Therefore the huminity tried to destroy us (and even succeeded). But,now we have everything;power, country, protection, and the most important is that we all united together in one area. Therefore anybody who want to hart us,wouldn`t succeed.
Well,I`m looking forwardto hearing
I don't think the holocaust was a punishment from God.
my opinion is that the only reason that the natzis killed the Jews
are because they jealous that the Jews succeed in all the things that they did and the natzis people were jealous them because they(the natzis)
didnt succeed and they saw that the jews succeed and because of them they had lost their works and they wanted to stop it !!!
and they wanted to punish them because thy were succeed and this is what they did this punishment was not from God.
I agree that this punishment was not from God. I think that the holocaust was just a point in time that showed the ugliest of ugly human spirits. The Nazis needed a scapegoat, somone to blame and since the Jews were so successful, yet so different then them, they pointed their fingers at them. God wouldn't just point his finger at a wonderful and successful group of people like that. It was HUMAN jelousy and envy, and the need of a scapegoat that brought it. I also think that is was also the fear of the unknown that caused the Nazi's to turn on people. Ignorance is the mother of all evils and that is demonstrated in the holocaust, as well as many of the conflicts going on in the world today. People don't know, so they hate. That's why I am so greatful for projects like this. It's this kind of thing that educates and stops hatred in its tracks.
Hopefully people can see that is wasn't God's punishment for people, but people's punishment to innocent people.
I hope to hear from you soon!
its hard to answer those questions.
Because I dont believe in god I can agree with the saying "its a punishment from above".
In my opinion there is two reasons for this war, an economic reason and a political one. Hitler knew two very important things- he can become a leader if he find a common thing within his voters, he found two- most of them were German, the second thing was- "the easiest way to control a mob is by using hate", he turned this hate to the minorities in Germany (Jews, gays, insane etc.). the war was one of hitlers ways to "boost up" the german economy. War and military and defense is one of the biggest industries. Even today most of the new technology is made because of war and military.
In my opinion there is no way to prevent this from happening again without war an progress in the communication filed. One of the reasons of WWII is that people around the world didn't know what germany was doing. Even today during the war in iraq, which is in a way a war to prevent WWIII, we dont know what is going on there. There is no way to criticize the actions of the government if you dont know what it is doing. othere important thing is to keep an eye on not democratic places around the world where there is too mutch power in one hand and it wants to perserv it.
we think that it is a very hard quastion wether we can prevent it or not. people have a great power of influnce in their hands and sometimes they dont even know about it. we can change and turn things as we want and like and if we really would like some thing to happen- it will! we mean- that if we really want to prevent it from happening again and we will act to achieve that it wont happen again!
besides, we, jewish, have a state now, not like at the world war 2 that we didnt have protection and we couldnt stand for ourselves..
o.k.. so that is asll for now...
cant wait for your answer...
I don't think we can prevent this from happening again, because as long as people will live on earth there will be evil and hatred, and that could lead to things like that, because there is an evil in the heart of humankind, and in the heart of every person sometimes less and sometimes more .Every person is born with a small part of evil in his heart, after that it is controllable we can expand the evil side or we can reduce it,it all depends on the society,on us,we have this huge responsibility on our shoulders. If you will think for a second you will realize that the society of Germany created Hitler, they planted the seeds of evil and the hatred for the Jews in his heart, and he continued in this route and poisoned all the young generation of Germany with the hatred for the Jews.
From my point of view the holocaust wasn't a punishment from god, because I don't believe in god,but I think it was a sign that there is no God,again from my point of view.
I wrote it quickly,and didn't see my mistake,sorry...
I think that we can take measures to try and prevent this from happening again by talking about it and telling younger children about it, but it is really out of our hands. As Jimi Hendrix said, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." This is the only way we can prevent this from happening again. How could this possibly be a punishment from God? There were too many innocent people killed.
Well... how are things there? Hopefully, they are good. Just so you know the reason why I haven't been on lately is that my computer at home is messed up. I've got to go. I'll answer the other questions later. Bye. TTYL Danielle ;)
I do agree that we should tell it to the children.. BUT not too much. If we annoy them we might just reach the opposite. The kids will grow up and rebel. That's the nature of the children...
If there was a god I don't think he would allow the death of his favorite people. Therefore our Almighty has left us after the death of his son. Noticed there were no real prophets and miracles after that? But of course you might know something I don't..
Don't feel too bad. My computer broke too. The repair cost daddy ~20$ and a week and with no computer for me.
So... Bye for now..
